Meeting Minutes

Those attending: Murray Beacom, Joyce Cummings, Brenda Kempel, Alf Lemp, Ann Roberts, Sheri Roy, Gloria and Emily Yeung.

1.      Membership Update:

Brenda reported the current membership: 42 life members, 23 yearly members.

2.      Guidebook Update:

Gloria made changes to the guidebook and had 300 more copies printed.  This is not a new edition, but an updated version of the current edition.  Should life members receive a new guidebook with the new changes or simply receive a list of edits to the life members?  Agreed to send a page with the changes and to add the changes to the WTG website. Need to include instructions on the website as to how to cut the page to fit in the guidebook.  Gloria will send changes to John.

3.      Hiking Log:

Brenda asked about the status of the hiking log.  Do we still honour this?  Do we still distribute crests for completed logs?  Brenda will check the material that John Robinson gave her to see if she has the crests.  Should the log be on the website?

4.      Victoria Glen, Elmira: Trail upgrade project

During 2007 and 2008 a section of Victoria Glen Park in Elmira (between the Hydro Building and the creek) was disturbed due to the construction of the storm drain.  As a result some trees and shrubs were removed.  TWEEC is planning to replant this area at a work party on Sat. Oct. 17.   TWEEC has suggested that a pathway be included in this area to link the existing pathways in the woods on either side of the project area.  TWEEC has asked if the WTG would be interested in helping install wood chips at the Oct 17 work party along the existing trail in the wooded areas and on a new linking pathway.  The group agreed to help with this project.  Ann will provide more details in the fall.

5.      Electric vehicles on trails:

The group talked briefly about electric vehicles on trails. This spring there have been some golf carts on some Woolwich Trails.  Ann has also been asked about e-bikes on trails.  Ann will call some local municipalities to see how they are addressing this new item.  If anyone has thoughts on this or knowledge of how other areas are addressing this please let Ann know.  aroberts@woolwich.ca or 669-6027.

Next Meeting:

November 11, 7 pm at the fire station in St. Jacobs.

Next Work Party:

Saturday October 17, 8:30 until noon, Victoria Glen Park, Elmira.
