Meeting Minutes

Those attending: Mark Bauman, Joyce Cummings, Eleanor Hrabi, Alf Lemp, Ann Roberts, Gloria Yeung.

1. WTG Job Descriptions:

Job descriptions, determined at the September meeting, were discussed. All to provide comments/updates to Gloria.  Nancy- please review the school hike day job description.  Brenda-please review the membership job description.

2.-        Guidebooks

Updates:

1-     Maple Syrup Festival: Laverne Brubacher advised Eleanor a few days before the 2008 festival that the WTG could have a display table to sell guidebooks.  It was too late to organize volunteers. Perhaps may want to try for 2009.

2-     New locations:  Eleanor looked for a new location in St. Jacobs.  However, the HH and Chocolates ‘n More were not interested.  Mark suggested that the St. Jacobs visitor centre might be an option once the Township’s new Economic Development Officer is hired.

The Visitor information Centre in Elmira will close at the end of 2008.  The function will move in some capacity to the new administration building.

Eleanor distributed 72 guidebooks since Feb. 2008 and delivered $ 214 to Don for deposit.

Currently there are 107 guidebooks on hand.  This should be ok over Christmas.  We may need to look at a reprint for Healthy Communities month.

Eleanor will contact all distributors to determine needs for the Christmas season.  She will also put up the Christmas displays and add the membership gift forms. Gloria will print 60 more forms for Eleanor.

  1. Membership

The membership renewal packages will be sent out in early January.  The hike schedule and annual report will need to be ready for the mail-out.  See discussion below.

3-      2009 Hike Schedule

There will be five hikes in 2009 with 2 in April for Healthy Communities month.

April 5: Hike at Breslau trails.  Loretta and possibly Lisa will do this.

April 19: Mark will do his birding hike on the HVT.

The group agreed not to do hike-on-a-bus this year.  There was a suggestion at the CC to combine hike-on-a-bus with a tour of local produce businesses.  The group agreed that these should really be separate events to be most effective.

We need 3 more hikes:

1-     At our September meeting Clint suggested a walking tour of Conestogo or Elmira, maybe with Marion Rose of the historical society.   Clint—could you please look into this for possibly the September hike?

2-     Bike hike:  in June or Sept.  Would Brad Fisher be interested in leading.  Suggestion of KBT starting in Elmira. People can park at the Observer parking lot and would also allow people the opportunity to bike to the starting point from Elmira.

3-     Sandy Hills: Gloria offered to lead this one on Thanksgiving Monday.

4-      Distance markers at trail heads:

Signs were installed on Sat. Oct. 4 on the Mill Race, HVT at University Ave, the kiosk behind the St. Jacobs firehall and at the expressway bridge. The group will continue to install signs in the spring and possibly over the Christmas break.  The plan is to install the posts first and then work on signs as time allows.

5-      Google site

John---any more development here?

6-      Annual Report:

Suggestions for Articles:

1-     The new cedar signs: include photos

2-     Hopewell trail and Riverland trail, Breslau

3-     ATVs in Woolwich: Ann

4-     Urban Poling: Ann to get information from Joy

5-     HC month list of activities: Ann

6-     Article on hiking in Britain:  Eleanor to prepare.

7-     Hiking with local food:  talk about the location of local produce near Woolwich trails; example Lost Acre Variety, Hill crest bakery near Floradale; Windrow farms near Winterbourne; Brubacher produce.  To provide some suggestions while biking or hiking.  Refer to the local food map for locations.

Eleanor will provide an updated list of guidebook distributors.

Ann will contact Kathy Beisel to see if she is interested in doing layout design again this year.
