2012 Hike Schedule

Sunday April 29, 2 pm:

2 hour birding hike on the Health Valley/Trans Canada Trail, St. Jacobs

Join Mark Bauman for birding and hiking. Meet at the kiosk at the trail entrance behind the fire station in St. Jacobs.  Take King St. N. to Albert St.  Turn right or east on Albert St. and continue to the kiosk at the back of the parking lot located at 35 Albert St. E.

 

Sunday May 6, 2 pm.

2 hour hike on the Hopewell Trail, Breslau

Join Lisa and Sheri to explore the new Hopewell Trail in Breslau. Please dress for possible wet, rainy weather.  Meet in the parking lot near the mill pond on Woolwich St., at the corner of Woolwich St. and Victoria St.

 

Sunday May 27, 2 pm:

2 hour hike and geocaching on the Lions Lake Trail near Floradale

Discover geocaching: the adventure that uses GPS to locate hidden “caches” around the world. Join hike leader and geocacher John Robinson for an introduction to this exciting trend. From Elmira, travel north on Arthur St. to Reid Woods Drive.  Turn left or west on Reid Woods Drive.  Travel approx. 1 km to municipal address #7224 and enter the conservation area on the north side of the road.  Meet in the parking lot near the dam.  Trail rating: easy, well maintained trail; includes gravel, earthen and grassed sections.  Washroom available.

 

SATURDAY JUNE 16, 2 PM

Bike ride on the Kissing Bridge Trailway/Trans Canada Trail, Elmira

Join Brad Fisher of Green Valley Bicycle Adventures for a bike ride on the Kissing Bridge Trailway.  Brad will provide cyclists with two options for this ride: a 20 km ride with a turn-around point as the half-way mark and a longer 30 km ride for those looking for a greater challenge.  Please meet in the Observer parking lot at 20 Arthur St., Elmira (where the trail crosses Arthur St.).  

Sunday September 9, 2 pm

2 hour wildflower hike on the Health Valley/Trans Canada Trail, St. Jacobs.

Join Judy for a hike along the Conestogo River and learn about the wildflowers and plants along the trail---those to enjoy and those to avoid!  Meet at the kiosk at the trail entrance behind the fire station in St. Jacobs.  Take King St. N. to Albert St.  Turn right or east onto Albert St. and continue to the kiosk at the back of the parking lot located at 35 Albert St. E.

Note: Please call Judy at 519 824-9476 prior to the hike to confirm the location and meeting time.  Rain date is Sat. Sept. 23, 2 pm.

 

SUNDAY OCTOBER 14, 2 PM

Enjoy the fall colours!

Bring your family and friends out for a colourful autumn stroll on the 106-year-old historic Mill Race Trail in St. Jacobs.  Linger on the banks of the race where families in the past relaxed after their Thanksgiving meal.  Meet Nancy at the trail entrance at the corner of Front St. and Isabella St..
